Tarion administers Ontario's statutory new-home warranty, which protects buyers of newly built homes and condos for up to seven years: broadly, a one-year warranty on work and materials, a two-year warranty on specific systems and water penetration, and a seven-year warranty on major structural defects. Coverage starts on your date of possession, and claims run on strict form deadlines. New-home warranty is provincial, so other provinces have their own programs.
