Home Construction Regulatory Authority
HCRA
The body that licenses Ontario's new-home builders and vendors.
The Home Construction Regulatory Authority (HCRA) licenses and regulates new-home builders and vendors in Ontario and runs the public Ontario Builder Directory. Since 2021 it has been separate from Tarion: the HCRA licenses the builder, while Tarion administers the warranty. Before buying a new build, checking a builder's HCRA licence and record is a basic and worthwhile piece of due diligence.
