    Major Structural Defect

    MSD

The serious structural problem covered by the seven-year warranty.

A major structural defect (MSD) is the most serious category of new-home warranty problem, covered by Ontario's seven-year Tarion warranty. Broadly, it is a defect that causes a load-bearing part of the building to fail, materially affects its ability to carry the loads it should for its normal life, or materially affects your ability to use a significant part of the home. It is the protection against rare but catastrophic structural failures.
