TRESA (the Trust in Real Estate Services Act, 2002) is the Ontario law governing real estate agents and brokerages, overhauled by amendments that took full effect on December 1, 2023. Its biggest change for the public: the old 'customer' service tier is gone, so in a trade you are either a client (fully represented, owed loyalty, disclosure, and confidentiality) or a self-represented party. Registrants must give you the RECO Information Guide before providing services, and RECO regulates them.
