GlossaryProperty & Ownership

    Property Manager

A person or company that operates a rental on the owner's behalf.

A property manager operates a rental property on the owner's behalf: marketing and screening, collecting rent, handling maintenance and tenant issues, and keeping records. Owners use one to save time or to run a larger or out-of-town portfolio, in exchange for a fee (often a percentage of rent). The owner still carries the legal obligations of a landlord, so a good manager works within the same tenancy rules the owner is bound by.
